Model Cities Comprehensive Neighborhood Health Center opens at 2310 Linwood Boulevard.

Community Mental Health Center added.

1981

Accredited by (then) Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Hospitals.

1984

A Health Maintenance Organization established and Swope Parkway Health Foundation established.

1986

Clinic renamed Swope Parkway Health Center and Swope Parkway Health Center becomes a United Way agency.

1987

Health Care for the Homeless program begins.

1989

Health Ministry Project launched with grant from Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

1991

Kanzetta Harris House and Curtis Franklin Lodge established to provide services for chronically and persistently mentally ill patients.

1993

Community Builders of Kansas City established and Northland Health Clinic opens.

1994

Applied Urban Research Institute founded.

1995

FirstGuard Health Plan is established when Model Cities is awarded an HMO license.

$21.3 million development project completed when new Swope Parkway Health Center facility opens.

1998

Merger with Douglas Community Health Center in Kansas City, Kansas.

Community Builders begins instrumental leadership in Brush Creek Corridor development projects.

1999

FirstGuard expands services to Kansas through purchase of Horizon HealthPlan.

2000

Healthy Steps and Health Care for the Homeless services begin at the Northland Clinic.

FirstGuard named Top 10 Kansas City Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year.

2001

The Brown Avenue Clinic opens. Swope Parkway Health Center receives the Ewing Marion Kauffman REACH award as a non-profit organization providing exemplary entrepreneurial leadership. Dental services begin at the Northland Clinic.

FirstGuard receives Kansas City Small Business Ethics Award.

2002

Community Builders of Kansas City completes construction on the FirstGuard Building, a $10.5 million structure.

The Northwest Community Health Center opens in Independence, MO.

The Pediatric Department at Swope awarded for 100% immunization rate for one- and two-year old patients

Community Builders of Kansas City Vice President Chuck Gatson named one of six national recipients of the James A. Johnson Community Fellows Award

Swope Parkway Health Center featured in the Resource Guide to Community-Based Health and Community Development Initiatives as example program contributing to health and economic development.

2003

Swope Community Enterprises is formed.

Swope Parkway Health Center and satellite clinics become Swope Health Services.

Community Builders of Kansas City becomes Swope Community Builders.

2004 and Beyond

FirstGuard Health Plan is sold, providing resources to sustain and grow Swope Community Enterprises' vision and mission today and in the future.
